Youth Peacemakers Tanzania Conducts Mental Health Awareness Seminar for Students in Mkinga District

Youth Peacemakers Tanzania (YPM) today conducted a Mental Health Awareness Seminar in Mkinga District, engaging students from Duga Secondary School and Zingibari Secondary School as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting youth well-being and peaceful communities.

The seminar aimed to raise awareness on mental health issues affecting young people, break stigma surrounding mental health, and encourage open conversations within school environments.

Students were introduced to key topics including understanding mental health, common mental health challenges among adolescents, stress management, emotional well-being, and where to seek help when facing mental health difficulties.

During the sessions, students actively participated and demonstrated a high level of interest. Many of them asked thoughtful and insightful questions related to mental health challenges they experience in their daily lives, showing a growing awareness and willingness to learn more about the subject.

The YPM team emphasized the importance of early support, peer encouragement, and speaking out without fear or shame. Students were also encouraged to support one another and to seek guidance from teachers, parents, and trusted adults whenever they face mental or emotional challenges.

The seminar concluded with a strong message that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that creating safe and supportive school environments is essential for students’ academic success and personal development.

Youth Peacemakers Tanzania remains committed to empowering young people with knowledge and skills that promote mental well-being, peace, and resilience.
