World Environmental Day

World Environment Day.

Every year on June 5, the world celebrates World Environment Day with a different slogan every year. The theme of the year 2023 was “Take care of the environment, save water sources for the well-being of living beings and the national economy”. YPM coordinated the celebration of this day on June 9 and was attended by an official guest who is the Chief Conservator of Magamba Natural Forest, Mr. Christoganus John Vyokuta.

This day is important for the country, Government and non-Government organizations, development stakeholders and everyone individually to be able to analyse and evaluate the state of our environment. The truth is that there has been a great destruction in our environment which has led to change in periods of rain, drought and increase in temperature.

In addition, the quality of the air we breathe has decreased as factories continue to pollute the environment by emitting smoke, but also the cutting of trees has caused hurricanes and dust to spread in the air along with many things that have an impact on the environment and our health.

This celebration included the planting of fruit trees in Lushoto Primary School and YPM Offices where the official guest, YPM Director, Representative of Lushoto District Commissioner, Representative of Lushoto Executive Director, YPM Programs Manager, Lushoto Ward Executive, College of Mabughai Community Development, Institute of Judicial Administration Lushoto, together with students from Secondary and Primary schools here in Lushoto participated in the activity.

Speaking to the people who gathered that day, Mr. Vyokuta encouraged the youth to take care of the environment because it is our life, and the Director of YPM explained how the YPM organization has a great responsibility to mobilize the community on environmental care as well as eradicating poverty and bringing equality in society.

These celebrations were decorated and coloured with various lessons for young people on environmental care and self-aware health education as well as various games for teaching and fun.

In ensuring that the environment is properly maintained, the Conservationist Mr. Vyokuta conducted an exercise to distribute more than three hundred (300) trees to all the people who attended. The trees were provided through the office of the Chief Conservator of Magamba Forest.

The management of YPM would like to give sincere thanks to all those who attended and ask them to make good use of the knowledge they got as well as to manage the trees given and planted for the care of our environment.

Siku ya Mazingira Duniani.

Kila mwaka tarehe 5 Juni dunia husheherekea siku ya mazingira Duniani ikiambatana na kauli mbiu tofautitofauti kwa kila mwaka. Kaulimbiu ya mwaka 2023 ilikua “Tunza mazingira ,okoa vyanzo vya Maji kwa Ustawi wa Viumbe Hai na Uchumi wa Taifa”. YPM iliratibu maadhimisho ya siku hii tarehe 9 juni na kuhudhuriwa na mgeni rasmi ambae ni Mhifadhi mkuu wa Msitu wa asili Magamba Bw.Christoganus John Vyokuta.

Siku hii ni muhimu kwa nchi,mashirika ya Serikali na yasiyo ya Serikali , wadau wa maendeeleo pamoja na kila mtu mmoja mmoja kuweza kuchambua na kutathmini juu ya hali ya mazingira yetu. Ukweli nikwamba kumekua na uharibufu mkubwa katika mazingira yetu hali iliyopelekea kubadirika kwa vipindi vya mvua, ukame na ongezeko la joto.

Aidha ubora wa hewa tunayovuta umepungua kwani viwanda vinaendelea kuchafua mazingira kwa kutoa moshi, lakini pia ukataji wa miti umesababisha vimbunga  na vumbi kutanda angani pamoja na mambo mengi ambayo yanaleta athari katika mazingira na afya zetu.

Maadhimisho haya yalijumuisha tukio la upandaji wa miti ya matunda katika shule ya Msingi Lushoto na Ofisi za YPM ambapo Mgeni rasmi, Mkurungenzi wa YPM, Mwakilishi wa Mkuu wa wilaya Lushoto, Mwakilishi wa Mkurugenzi Mtendaji Lushoto, Meneja Miradi wa YPM, Mtendaji kata Lushoto, Chuo cha  Maendeleo ya Jamii Mabughai, Chuo cha Uongozi wa Mhakama Lushoto, pamoja na wanafunzi kutoka shule za Sekondari na Msingi hapa Lushoto walishiriki zoezi hilo.

Akizungumza na watu waliokusanyika siku hiyo Mhifadhi Bw. Vyokuta aliwaasa vijana kutunza mazingira maana ndio uhai wetu, naye Mkurugenzi wa YPM alielezea namna ambavyo shirika la YPM lina jukumu kubwa la kuhamasisha jamii juu ya utunzaji wa mazingira pamoja na kutokomeza umaskini na kuleta usawa katika jamii.

Maazimisho haya yalipambwa na masomo mbalimbali kwa vijana juu ya utunzaji wa mazingira na elimu ya afya ya kujitambua pamoja na michezo mbali mbali kwajili ya kufundisha na kufurahisha.

Katika kuhakikisha mazingira yanatunzwa ipasavyo, Mhifadhi Bw. Vyokuta aliendesha zoezi la ugawaji wa miti zaidi ya mia tatu (300) kwa watu wote waliohudhuria. Miti hiyo ilitolewa kupitia ofisi ya Mhifadhi mkuu wa Msitu wa Magamba.

Uongozi wa YPM unapenda kutoa shukrani za dhati kwa wote waliohudhuria na kuwaasa watumie vyema elimu walioipata pamoja na kusimamia miti iliyotolewa na iliyopandwa kwa utunzaji wa mazingira yetu.

Social Audit

YPM kushirikiana na Taasisi ya Madeni na Maendeleo Tanzania TCDD(Tanzania Debt and Development) imeendesha mafunzo juu ya ukaguzi wa Kijamii kwa wananchi wa Kata ya Ngulwi. Baada ya mafunzo hayo wanachi wameunda kamati ambayo itahusika katika ufuatiliaji wa Mradi wa maji katika Kata hiyo unao simamiwa na RUWASA.

YPM in collaboration with the Tanzania Debt and Development (TCDD) has conducted training on Social Audit for the citizens of Ngulwi Ward. After the training, the citizens have formed a committee that will be involved in the Auditing of the Water Project in the Ward. The project is being implemented by Tanzania government through RUWASA.

Actually, there are a lot more suggestions for a greener world. Your responsibility to safeguard the environment By recycling, reusing, and composting, choosing more eco-friendly transportation methods, lowering your power usage, shopping locally, supporting environmental charities, and avoiding hazardous chemicals, you can help safeguard the environment. Individual contributions can start to make an impact, and others will join in later by participating in advocacy and teamwork.You can start making a difference with individual contributions; others will come later through advocacy and teamwork. Our environment is our future.

Entrepreneurship Training

Mkurugenzi wa Tasisi ya Youth Peacemakers Tanzania (YPM) Mch.Godfrey Walalaze ameendesha semina ya ujasiliamali Makorora Mjini Tanga kwalengo lakuwezesha Washarika wa kanisa la Makorora kuona kutumia fursa mbalimbali zinazinazopatikana katika maeneo yao. Katika seminar hiyo ambayo pia ilihudhuriwa na Mtendaji katika mradi wa Bomba la mafuta kutoka Uganda aliweza kueleza fursa mbali mbali zinazotokana na kutekelezwa kwa mradi huo jijini Tanga.


The Director of Youth Peacemakers Tanzania (YPM) Rev. Godfrey Walalaze has conducted an entrepreneurship seminar at Makorora in Tanga with the aim of empowering Makorora church members to see how to use the various opportunities available in their areas. In the seminar, which was also attended by the Executive in the oil Pipeline project from Uganda, he was able to explain the various opportunities arising from the implementation of the project in Tanga.

TCDD General Assembly

Muungano wa Tanzania wa Madeni na Maendeleo (TCDD) ambapo YPM ni mwanachama ilifanya mkutano wa Mwaka mjini Dodoma kujadili masuala yanayohusu madeni na Maendeleo nchini Tanzania. YPM kama mwanachama iliwakilishwa na Meneja Miradi Bw. Peter Jally. Katika muungano huu YPM pia imejitoa kuwezesha jamii kuhusu uwajibikaji wa kijamii hasa katika kuiwezesha jamii kufanya Ukaguzi wa Kijamii katika sekta ya maji mwaka huu hapa Lushoto.

Tanzania Coalition on Debt and Development (TCDD) whereby YPM is a member held Annual meeting in Dodoma to discuss virous issues concerning debt and Development in Tanzania. YPM as the member was represented by Programs Manager Mr. Peter Jally. In this coalition YPM is also committed to empower the community about social accountability specifically on equipping the community to conduct Social Auditing in water sector this year here in Lushoto.

Mwenyekiti wa Asasi ya Kiraia ya Lushoto(LUSCO) Mch. Godfrey Tahona Walalaze akizungumza kwenye Mkutano wa Mwaka uliofanyika katika ukumbi wa Halmashauri ya Wilaya ya Lushoto. Mkutano huo uliohudhuriwa na mgeni rasmi Mhe. Kalist Lazaro Mkuu wa Wilaya ya Lushoto, Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Wilaya ya Lushoto Mhe. Ikupa Mwaisyoge, mwakilishi wa Mkurugenzi wa Halmashauri ya Bumbuli wageni waalikwa na wajumbe.

Mkutano Mkuu wa Mwaka 2023

Mkutano mkuu wa Taasisi ya YPM Tanzania wenye lengo la kutathmini maendeleo ya taasisi, umefanyika katika ukumbi wa Utondolo tarehe 15 Aprili 2023, ukihudhuriwa na wajumbe, pamoja na wawakilishi wa serikali kutoka maeneo mbalimbali ya mkoa wa Tanga.

Mwenyekiti wa Mkutano huo ambaye pia ni mwenyekiti wa Bodi ya YPM Tanzania, Mch. Sembuyagi, alifanikiwa kuratibu mkutano huo kwa kusimamia uwasilishwaji wa ripoti mbalimbali ikiwemo, ripoti ya fedha, utekelezaji wa shughuli, mpango kazi wa utekelezaji wa shughuli za YPM pia changamoto na mafanikio yaliyopo katika Taasisi kwa mwaka 2022.

Aidha katibu wa mkutano, amabye pia ni Mkurugenzi wa Taasisi ya YPM, Mch. Walalaze alitolea ufafanuzi hoja mbalimbali zilizoibuliwa na wajumbe kutoka katika ripoti zilizosomwa, ikiwemo suala la umiliki wa ardhi ambalo bado lipo katika hatua za mwisho za makubaliano, ujenzi wa viwanja vya michezo, upatikanaji wa vitega uchumi kwa ajili ya maendeleo ya shirika, Pamoja na uwezeshaji wa vijana.

Akizungumzia sheria ya vikundi vidogo vya uwekaji wa fedha (SIG), Bi. Maria Kakai mwakilishi kutoka ofisi ya maendeleo ya jamii amesema kua, sheria ya sasa ya vikundi hivyo vya fedha vinawataka wanachama kuhakikisha wamesajili vikundi vyao serikalini na pia hawaruhusiwi kuvunja mzunguko wa kikundi kwa kuchukua fedha walizohifadhi ifikapo mwisho wa mwaka na badala yake wanatakiwa kufunga mzunguko kwa kugawana faida kulingana na mzunguko au faida ya kikundi iliyopatikana kulingana na mzunguko au biashara za kikundi na kuendeleza mzunguko wa kikundi.

Youth Peacemakers Tanzania Annual General Meeting 2023

The general meeting of the YPM Tanzania organization with the aim of evaluating the development of the organization, has been held in the Utondolo hall on April 15, 2023, attended by delegates, as well as government representatives from various areas of Tanga region.

The chairman of the meeting who is also the chairman of the Board of YPM Tanzania, Rev. Sembuyagi, managed to coordinate the meeting by managing the presentation of various reports including, financial report, implementation of activities, work plan for the implementation of YPM activities as well as the challenges and achievements in the organization for the year 2022.

In addition, the secretary of the meeting, who is also the Director of the YPM organization, Rev. Walalaze explained the various arguments raised by the members from the reports read, including the issue of land ownership which is still in the final stages of the agreement, the construction of sports grounds, the availability of investments for the development of the organization, along with the facilitation of young people.

Speaking about law and regulation guiding Saving and Investment Group(SIG), Mrs. Maria Kakai, a representative from the community development office, said that the current law of these financial groups requires members to ensure that they have registered their groups with the government, and they are also not allowed to divide shares amongst themselves and starts over again at the end of the group fiscal year and instead they are required to share dividend that was earned at the end of the year.

SIGs Facilitators Training

Mafunzo kwa wawezeshaji wa vikundi vidogo vya kijamii vya huduma ndogo za fedha (SIGs) yamefanyika katika viwanja vya taasisi ya YPM Tanzania kuanzia tarehe 23 hadi 24 mwezi Machi 2023 kwa lengo la kuwakumbusha wawezeshaji mbinu mbalimbali za kuendesha vikundi hivyo.

Meneja wa Taasisi ya YPM Tanzania akiendesha mjadala wa mafunzo ya SIGs kwa wawezeshaji

Akiendesha mjadala uliohusiana na kutambua changamoto na mafanikio yaliyofikiwa na SIGs Rev. Walalaze, Mkurugenzi wa Taasisi ya YPM Tanzania, amewasihi wawezeshaji hao kutembelea vikundi mbalimbali na kufuatilia changamoto wanazopitia na kuwasaidia wanavikundi kutatua changamoto hizo, pia amewasihi wawezeshji kufuatilia mienendo ya vikundi vyote wanavyovisimamia.

Mwezeshaji wa mkutano huo ambaye pia ni Meneja wa YPM Tanzania Bw. Peter Jally amesema kuwa, wawezeshaji wanayonafasi kubwa katika kuhakikisha maendeleo ya vikundi na wanavikundi yanakua ya mafanikio, pia amewasihi wawezeshaji kuhakikisha vikundi havivunji mzunguko bali wanaendeleza mzunguko wa uwekaji wa hisa ili kuweza kumnufaisha mwanakikundi kupata asilimia kubwa ya mkopo na gawio pindi kikundi kinapo funga mzunguko wa mwaka.

Aidha Afisa michezo na utetezi wa mazingira Bw. Francis Kamote amewasihi wawezeshaji kujua namna sahihi ya kuikabili migogoro inayokumba vikundi kwa kutumia busara ili kuepusha uwezekano wa uvunjaji vikundi kwani migogoro midogomidogo ndiyo inayopelekea vikundi vingi kuvunjika.

Bw. Yona James mmoja wa wawezeshaji  anawasishi watu wajiunge na vikundi hivi kwani vinasaidia sana hasa pale mtu anapohitaji mkopo wa haraka, “uwepo wa vikundi hivi vinasaidia sana hasa pale unapopata shida ambayo inahitaji utatuzi wa fedha wa haraka, unakua na uwezo wa kupata mkopo kutoka katika kikundi ulichopo na kwa riba nafuu”.

Wawezeshaji wakiwa katika makundi wakati wa majadiliano juu ya changamoto na faida za SIGs

Akitoa ushauri kwa wakina mama Pamoja na vijana Bi. Melina Mhema, muwezeshaji na mwanakikundi wa vikundi vya Shume na Ufunuo amesema “nawashauri akina mama na vijana kujiunga na vikundi hivi kwani inasaidia kupata mtaji na kujikwamua kiuchumi, mfano mimi nimeweza kujikwamua kutoka katika umasikini kutokana na kujiunga na vikundi na kwa sasa ni mjasiriamali namiliki biashara ya chakula, na nafuga kuku.

Training for YPM SIGs Facilitators

Training for the facilitators of Saving and Investment Groups (SIGs) was held on the grounds of the YPM from the 23rd to the 24th of March 2023 with the aim of reminding the facilitators on the various methods of running those groups.

Rev. Walalaze, the Director of the YPM Tanzania conducted a discussion related to recognizing the challenges and achievements achieved by the SIGs. He urged the facilitators to visit various groups and monitor the challenges they are experiencing and help the group members solve those challenges. He also urged the facilitators to monitor the movements of all the groups they manage.

The facilitator of the meeting, who is also the Manager of YPM Tanzania Mr. Peter Jally, said that the facilitators have a great opportunity to ensure that the development of groups and group members is successful. He also urged the facilitators to ensure that the groups do not take out dividend by the closing of each year, but instead continue stock placement over several years to be able to get a larger percentage of loans and dividends.

In addition, The Sports and Environmental Protection Officer Mr. Francis Kamote urged the facilitators to know conflict resolution and tactics to avoid groups breaking up because of small conflicts, which has been the source of closure of many groups.

Mr. Yona James, one of the facilitators, said that he urges people to join these groups because they are very helpful especially when someone needs a quick loan. “The presence of these groups is very helpful especially when you have a problem that requires a quick financial solution, you are able to get a loan from in the group you are in and at a low interest rate”.

Giving advice to mothers and young people, Mrs. Melina Mhema, a facilitator and group member of the Shume and Ufunuo groups has said “I advise mothers and young people to join these groups because it helps to get capital and fight poverty. For example I have been able to alleviate my personal financial challenges by joining groups and now I am an entrepreneur and I own a business of food, and I raise chickens too, so it’s better”.
