Youth Peacemakers brought together young people from the Institute of Judicial Administration (IJA), YPM Youth Forum in Moshi who have come from Machame and KCMC health colleges, along with other participants from Iringa health University and Prince Claus Secondary School in Lushoto. These young people had the opportunity to jointly review the Environmental Management Act of 2024 and reconcile the following matters; –

i/ The law is strong in managing the environment

ii/ It has been seen that society still does not understand enough about this law

iii/ There is no effective management of this law in our areas. After analysing this, the young people agreed on two things to work on in the region of Tanga and Kilimanjaro where the first thing is to provide education on the rights and responsibilities of every citizen on environmental care but also to motivate and cooperate with the Government to ensure that this law it is implemented in our communities.

Child of Africa: Strengthen Protection and Equal Opportunities for Children

Youth Peacemakers Tanzania (YPM), in collaboration with the Lushoto District Council, have joined together in the celebration of the International  African Child day held at the district level at Dule ward, in Mlalo constituency, on June 16, 2024.

International African Child day is an annual commemoration held on June 16, aiming to remember the children of Soweto, South Africa, who were killed on June 16, 1976, due to the existence of racial segregation.

In their struggle to demand their rights against discrimination, as well as other human rights such as quality education for all children, these children were brutally killed. Hence, in 1990, the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union (AU), passed a resolution to remember these brave children who fought for their rights.

This year’s theme is “Sustainable Development 2030: Strengthen Protection and Equal Opportunities for Children,” with the aim of reminding parents, guardians, the government, and other stakeholders to fulfill our duty in strengthening child protection systems and development. This is to address the increasing challenges of violence against children in the country and to ensure equal rights for all children without any form of discrimination

Discussion on the Commemoration of the Intenational African Child Day

As we approach the commemoration of the International African Child Day, Youth Peacemakers Tanzania has organized a discussion to educate the community about this important day. They have invited youth from Peace Clubs at the Judicial Leadership Institute (IJA) and students from secondary schools to participate in the discussion at the studios of Utume FM radio.

This discussion aims to highlight the challenges facing children, including abuse, child marriages, teenage pregnancies, and violence against children. The goal is to remind the community not to ignore or remain silent when they witness violations of children’s rights.

By collaborating with the government to expose the evil acts affecting children, the community can contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, which aim to ensure that every child receives the appropriate rights and responsibilities.

Reflection on YPM’S WORK

Siku zimepita, miezi ikapita miaka nayo ikapita na hata majira yamebadilika. Sio hivyo tu bali hata walikokua wakitwa vijana kipindi hicho inawezekana kwa sasa sio vijana tena. Haya yote yanatupa kufikiria tulikotoka mpaka tulipo sasa.

Days have passed, months have passed and years have passed and even the seasons have changed. Not only that, but even those who used to be called young people during that period are probably not young anymore. All this gives us a chance to reflect about where we came from to where we are now. As a YPM stakeholder, what do you remember when you see the below pictures?
